The verdict is in!
Jon “Bones” Jones will be fighting Ovince Saint Preux for the interim Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight title at UFC 197 on April 23. The news was revealed by UFC president Dana White on ESPN earlier this evening.
Remember, current Light Heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier pulled out of his rematch bout with Jones less than 24 hours ago. Jones also recently took to Instagram to reassure his fans that he will still be competing on the April card, which dodged a replacement main event between UFC Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and Henry Cejudo.
While the idea of another interim championship being put on the line is silly, Jones vs. Saint Preux is one of the more intriguing matchups at the 205-pound level. The 32-year-old can not only match Jones in size, but also in athleticism, seeing as he played collegiate football for The University of Tennessee.
Jones will obviously be the heavy favorite, but he should have his hands full with OSP on just three weeks notice.
