With another Ultimate Fighting Championship event in the books sometimes there are so many stories, or even just fighter quotes, that it’s difficult to give them their own article. So we at The MMA News do our best to summarize all of the ‘News & Notes’ after an event, and UFC 124: St-Pierre vs. Koscheck II is no different.
Here is our ‘News & Notes’ for last nights UFC 124 event in Montreal.
-
– The Bell Centre drew a record attendance of 23,152 fans
– Fans will never get to vote for the “Fight of the Night” again after they picked GSP vs. Josh Koscheck as the winner.
-
“It’s one of the hazards. They (the fans) are always chirping about how we mess it up and here we are. They blew their chance. That’s it. It’s over.”
– White felt the prelim fight between Sean Pierson and Matt Riddle deserved the “Fight of the Night” honor, noting that he’d take care of the two. He joked that GSP owes fellow teammate Sean Pierson $100,000 for receiving the bonus from the fans.
– GSP seems to be warming up to the idea of moving to 185 lbs, but a move to middleweight will be a permanent move if he decides to make the change.
-
“If I go up in a weight class, I’m going to have to put muscle on my body because I’m going to be too small for 185. If I put muscle on my body and I go up to 185, I’m going to have to stay at 185.”
– Jake Shields will get the next shot at the welterweight title but no idea when that could happen.
– GSP wants to take his next fight in Toronto at UFC 131, a card which could also host the UFC heavyweight title bout between champ Cain Velasquez and challenger Junior dos Santos.
– Dana White is still ranking Anderson Silva as the #1 pound-for-pound fighter. GSP #2, Frankie Edgar #3, and Jose Aldo #4.
– Stefan Struve says victory over Sean McCorkle was an “easy fight” and wasn’t worried when McCorkle had his arm.
-
“It’s good to keep my face intact for once. My last three or four fights were wars and I got a couple of new scars from that. It’s good to win an easy fight like that…The fight was easier than I thought it would be. Everything I tried, I succeeded.”
– Joe “Daddy” Stevenson will not be cut from the UFC after his knockout loss to Mac Danzig.
-
“We like guys that fight, we like guys that come in and lay it on the line. Joe Stevenson’s had a bad run, it’s so tough to cut a guy that comes in and does what he’s supposed to do, and he’s one of those guys.”
– Jim Miller is looking for a little “respect” and wants his shot at the UFC title. He defeated Charles Oliveira on the main card and says the only guys to beat him are the #1 and 2 fighters.
– White said he has plans for Miller but noted that there isn’t a lot of interest from the fans or media at this time to help boost his status. In a post fight interview White pointed out that during the 40 plus minute press conference Miller only fielded one question at the end of the conference.
– Thiago Alves has taken a new lifestyle approach to dropping weight which really helped him in his victory over John Howard. He had no issues with the weight cut and felt great in the cage. He would like to face Jake Shields for his next fight.
– Mark Bocek says that he has the best BJJ in the lightweight division and wants to face George Sotiropoulos to prove his point.
– No post fight interviews with Georges St-Pierre or Josh Koscheck have surfaced, sorry people.
