A UFC bantamweight matchup between Takeya Mizugaki (13-5-2) and Francisco Rivera (5-1) surfaced on Friday.
MMAWeekly.com is reporting the two bantamweight fighters have been issued with bout agreements to meet at the upcoming UFC on Versus 3 event scheduled for March 3. No venue for the Versus card has surfaced but several bouts have already been confirmed for the show including a welterweight match between Diego Sanchez vs. Martin Kampmann and a middleweight bout featuring Alessio Sakara vs. Maiquel Falcão.
Japanese fighter Mizugaki lost his last cage appearance at WEC 52 after he was submitted by Urijah Faber in the first round of their main event bout. So far his record in the WEC stands at 2-3 with one bantamweight title bout versus Miguel Torres in his promotional debut.
Meanwhile Rivera had his undefeated streak stopped at 5 fights after he suffered a first round TKO loss to Erik Koch in his WEC debut as a featherweight in November. Rivera now drops down to 135 to face Mizugaki and will look to erase that loss.
Either fighter is looking at back-to-back losses and could face the UFC chopping block at the event. No word on which part of the card the fight could end up but most likely they’ll battle it out on the prelim portion of the nights event.
