UFC lightweight Kenny Florian (14-5) pulled out of an upcoming UFC Fight for the Troops 2 bout with Evan Dunham last month after injuring his knee while training. It wasn’t clear how long the former #1 contender would be sidelined, but his manager Malki Kawa offered this update via Twitter on Monday evening.

Florian injured his knee while training in Montreal in early December damaging the MCL and meniscus of the knee. His record over his last four fights is 2-2 and is coming off a #1 contender loss to Gray Maynard at UFC 118. Before the defeat he had won two straight submitting both Clay Guida, at UFC 107, and Takanori Gomi, at UFC Fight Night 21.
Pettis is 4-1 in his last four fights and is coming off a WEC lightweight title win over Ben Henderson last month at the very last WEC show, WEC 53 in Arizona. The last WEC champ had been guaranteed the next title shot but with Edgar and Maynard fighting a rematch after their draw, Pettis would likely have to sit out a year waiting for his shot. He has elected not to wait and will make his UFC debut sometime this spring, so a match with Florian isn’t out of the question.
