You knew UFC superstar Conor McGregor wasn’t going to keep quiet tonight (Sat., April 28, 2018) after Straight Blast Gym teammate and good friend Dillon Danis made a successful professional mixed martial arts (MMA) debut at Bellator 198 in Rosemont, Illinois.
Danis, who has been training alongside “Notorious” for a few years now, didn’t waste too much time on his feet before pulling guard on opponent Kyle Walker, threatening with a knee bar, and eventually securing a first-round finish via toe hold submission (highlights here). It was pretty impressive, even though “El Jefe” was tagged a few times on the feet before dragging the action to the canvas.
In response to Danis’ successful MMA crossover, McGregor took to Instagram to congratulate his brother in arms:
With more training alongside McGregor to come, Danis could quickly become a legitimate contender inside of the Bellator cage. But he will have to continue his evolution on the feet in order to transform himself into a more well-rounded and dangerous fighter.
As for McGregor, he’s going to lean heavy on Danis for grappling knowledge as he gears up for his return to the Octagon.
