Kamaru Usman may not have finished two-time UFC title challenger Demian Maia last night (Sat., May 19, 2018) at UFC Fight Night 129 from inside Movistar Arena in Santiago, Chile, but her certainly dominated the Brazilian.
While there weren’t many worthy offensive outbursts in this fight other than a Usman right hand that knocked Maia down in the fourth, “Nigerian Nightmare” was able to dictate the entire pace of the fight. Maia simply couldn’t do any damage to the superior wrestler, similar to how the Brazilian struggled against Tyron Woodley, Colby Covington, Chris Weidman, and Jake Shields.
In the end, on the heels of 15 stuffed takedowns and intelligent gameplanning, Usman was able to walk his way through the main event for a unanimous decision win.

With this performance, Usman extends his UFC record to 8-0, putting himself on a short list of legitimate contenders at 170 pounds. There’s still a lot of work for Usman to do in order to patch up the holes that are there, but his elite wrestling skills and raw power make him a problem for any divisional foe.
