It looks like Cris Cyborg vs. Amanda Nunes could have its own backup plan, as a women’s featherweight matchup between former Invicta FC champion Megan Anderson and bantamweight veteran Cat Zingano is nearly locked in for UFC 232 on Dec. 29 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, per a recent report by ESPN’s Ariel Helwani (shown below).

Anderson, 28, made her Octagon debut this past June at UFC 225 and ended up losing a decision to former women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm. The talented striker had won her previous four bouts under the Invicta FC banner all by way of knockout. Anderson is one of the best fighters at 145 pounds today so it will be interesting to see how she closes out 2018 against a tough opponent like “Alpha.”

Zingano, 36, got back into the win column with a hard-fought decision win over Marion Reneau this past July, which was her first victory since 2014. The former UFC title challenger has been trying to claw her way back into contention ever since losing to Ronda Rousey and a win over Anderson on the UFC’s end-of-the-year card might do it. That said, Zingano will be making her featherweight debut.

UFC 232 will be headlined by a light heavyweight title rematch between former champion Jon Jones and perennial contender Alexander Gustafsson.
