Colby Covington is never one to bite his tongue so you knew he was going to fire back at Anthony Smith after “Lionheart” said the trash-talking welterweight is like a “scared cat” off camera.

That comment came one week after Smith, who fights light heavyweight champion Jon Jones next month at UFC 235, swatted Covington’s attempt to troll “Bones” on Twitter.

Now, with time to regroup and come up with a clever response, Covington is sending shots back at Smith.

“Yeah, he’s a total mark. You know, the guy, he hasn’t beat anybody that wasn’t 10 years past their prime coming off the steroids,” Covington told Submission Radio (shown above). “He’s on what, a three-fight win streak and he was just getting knocked out by 185-ers. So, the guy’s a complete joke. Everything he’s saying, ‘oh, we were in the gym’, dude, you never came up to me in the gym, you trained on the opposite side of the gym, who’s the b-tch?

“Like, the guy’s irrelevant, he shouldn’t even be fighting for a title,” he continued. “But hats off to him, he’s getting a title shot. But I’m gonna stick to winning belts. He’s never gonna be winning a belt, so that’s something we ain’t going to have to worry about. I’m gonna stick to winning belts and go to the White House.”

Smith, 30, has finished all three of his fights since moving up to light heavyweight back in June of last year. The former middleweight has taken out respected veterans Rashad Evans, Mauricio Rua, and Volkan Oezdemir, en route to earning a title shot against Jones at UFC 235.

While Smith’s recent success rate suggests he has earned the opportunity to compete for a UFC title, Covington isn’t quite ready to jump on that bandwagon.

“I could give a f—k less about the guy. He’s a junior, he’s not on my level. He shouldn’t even be talking to a King. He’s never gonna win a belt, he’s never gonna go to the White House,” he said of Smith. “The guy’s an amateur and he shouldn’t even be fighting for a title, but he’s in one of the weakest divisions in the UFC, so hats off to him.

“He gets his show up money to take a loss and that’s the end of him. We’re focusing on me.”

Covington, who was recently passed over for a UFC welterweight title shot, is still without an opponent for his next fight. And considering “Chaos” has been more interested in bashing UFC officials than securing his 170-pound future, fight fans may not see Covington compete until later this year.

For now, out attention will be on Smith trying to defeat the unflappable Jon Jones next month in Las Vegas and secure his right to visit the White House.
