Junior dos Santos calls for a shot at the UFC heavyweight title, which is currently held by Daniel Cormier, should he win his next fight.
This will be easier said than done as his next bout is going to be challenge. The former UFC heavyweight champion is slated to fight 265-pound brawler Derrick Lewis in the headliner of UFC Wichita (also known as UFC on ESPN+ 4).
While doing a recent interview, JDS stated that he still needs some more good performances in order to secure another shot.
“I’m already qualified to fight for the belt,” JDS told Combate. “I just need to beat whoever is ahead of me in the rankings. With one or two more wins, I think I should be fighting for the title again. I want to face the best, the best of the best. I think this could be a great opportunity, Lewis is well ranked and a win over him puts me in a good spot.”
The former UFC heavyweight champion scored a second-round TKO win over Tai Tuivasa in the UFC Adelaide headliner. This fight went down in December at Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Adelaide, South Australia on FOX Sports 1.
UFC on ESPN + 4 is set to take place on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Intrust Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas.
