Derrick Lewis explains why he thinks that a rematch against title contender Francis Ngannou needs to happen in the Octagon.
At the UFC 226 pay-per-view event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, Lewis was able to pick up a unanimous decision win over the former title contender.
This was not a thrilling fight at all. Instead, neither fighter threw a lot of shots in a stand-up fight that was being hyped as someone will be KO’d in the first round. That didn’t happen.
The hard-hitting heavyweight star already has his next fight booked as he’ll fight Junior dos Santos in the headliner of this week’s UFC Wichita (also known as UFC on ESPN+ 4). While doing a recent interview, Lewis explained his mindset.
“I would like to fight him again,” Lewis told MMA Junkie. “If he gets to the title, then, yes, I’ll fight him again. I would love to fight him again if he gets the title shot.
“I have to right the wrong. I can’t retire without fighting Francis again – at least get in a good shot on the guy. Goddamn, I wish I would have gotten a good shot on him. We’ll see how this year plays out.”
UFC on ESPN + 4 is set to take place on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Intrust Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas.
