UFC lightweight Joe Lauzon (19-6) has had to cancel a goodwill military tour at the last minute due to a badly twisted ankle.
Joe was set to leave on Thursday for Iraq but received a call at 2AM notifying him that his brother, ex-UFC fighter Dan Lauzon, had been taken to the hospital. As Joe ran out to his vehicle he “ended up rolling” his ankle on the walkway.
MMAFighting.com says that Dan received a non-life threatening stab wound after an altercation in the parking lot of a Bridgewater, Mass. pub, which was published in The Enterprise, a local paper. The article from the paper does not name Dan as the individual wounded but Mike Chiappetta confirmed the news with sources close to Lauzon.
Dan Lauzon received a few stitches for the injury, and according to brother Joe “it wasn’t a big deal as was originally thought.”
Joe Lauzon posted the photo on his blog site (@joelauzon.com) and his hopes that maybe he can catch another flight out to Iraq to do all the non-physical activities of the goodwill military tour.
I went to the ER when I woke up this morning and got it xrayed. They said it wasn’t broken, but that it was a bad sprain. They told me to stay off it for a few days and no “work” for a week… then I explained to them what I do for “work” and they said no training of any kind for a little while longer than that.
So needless to say, I will not be making it to the airport and heading to Iraq today. Hopefully I can walk on it better by tomorrow and I can get another flight out there, but it’s not looking real good. I definitely won’t be able to train out there, but I would still like to be able to do all of the Q&A, meet and greets and whatnot.
