Maciej JewtuszkoPoland isn’t known for producing successful home grown mixed martial artists yet, but undefeated lightweight Maciej Jewtuszko (8-0) is hoping to bring some recognition to the growing popularity of the sport in his home country with his upcoming bout at UFC 127.

Jewtuszko is currently scheduled to meet British fighter Curt Warburton at the upcoming Feb. 26 event at Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia. The two will meet on the preliminary card of the event and will be the Polish fighters UFC debut, as well as the first time he’ll fight in front of such a big crowd.

The Polish fighter made his North American debut at WEC 50 last August earning a first round knockout over Anthony Njokuani winning the “Knockout of the Night” bonus for the event.

“To win that KO of the Night bonus was awesome and certainly helped me to get recognized in the fight world. That fight was a milestone for my career and a great prelude to my future career overseas. It’s also important to me because I come from a relatively small city in Poland which most people have never heard about. But with this first fight I won some new fans from all over the world…Everyone wants to be that first guy to beat an undefeated fighter. I hate losing and I hope never to lose a fight. This show in Australia will be huge; it will be my first time in front of such a big, live audience but it doesn’t make me nervous at all – it makes me happy and motivated. Being a professional MMA fighter and part of the UFC is the greatest adventure I could ever wish for, so at this point of my life I’m a very happy person.”

Other notable fighters who have fought in the UFC of Polish decent are Tomasz Drwal who fought six times before being released, while still currently fighting in the UFC Bart Palaszewski and Krzysztof Soszynski were born in Poland but left the country at young ages.
