Brandon Davis made a successful bantamweight debut earlier tonight (Sat., April 13, 2019) at UFC 236 from inside State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, when he took out Octagon newcomer Randy Costa via second-round submission (rear-naked choke).
Despite this being Costa’s first fight under the bright lights of UFC he was able to land huge offense from the opening bell. Davis didn’t have many answers for the young bantamweight and had to push through some rough patches. That was until Davis opened up in the second round and landed a big knee inside that stunned Costa. Costa tried to recover but ended up giving up his back in the process and Davis took advantage by locking in a tight rear-naked choke.

With this performance, Davis gets back into the win column after getting submitted by featherweight contender Zabit Magomedsharipov last September. “Killer B” didn’t look perfect tonight but he did what he needed to do to get the finish in his divisional debut. Davis called out rising star Sean O’Malley after his victory but he’s unlikely to land that fight without another bantamweight win under his belt.
