Former “Ultimate Fighter” season 8 cast member Eliot Marshall (8-2) has been re-signed by the Ultimate Fighting Championship to face Luiz Cane (10-3) at UFC 128. Marshall steps in to replace Karlos Vemola who was pulled from the card for an undisclosed injury.
Tatame.com broke the news earlier today and has since been confirmed by several news sites. The Cane vs. Vemola bout was to have aired on Spike TV but no word yet if Cane vs. Marshall will also or be replaced by another fight from one of the unaired prelim bouts.
Marshall last appeared in the octagon in March 2010, losing a split decision to Vladimir Matyushenko. It was his first loss in the UFC, going 3-1, and still saw him released by the promotion. Since that time Marshall won three straight with various promotions. His last fight was a submission victory over Chris McNally at the disastrous Nemesis Fighting event in Punta Cana last December.
Cane is in need of a victory after losing two straight bouts, his overall UFC record is 3-3. He was TKO’d by both Cyrille Diabate at UFC 114 and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC 106. The losses ended a three fight win streak that saw him defeat Steve Cantwell, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, and Jason Lambert.
UFC 128: Shogun vs. Jones takes place on March 19 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
