An undisclosed injury to Cub Swanson (15-4) has forced the featherweight to pull out of his upcoming UFC on Versus 3 (aka UFC Live: Sanchez vs. Kampmann) bout against Erik Koch (11-1).
The news was first reported by MMAjunkie.com on Wednesday night. The website learned of the injury to Swanson from sources close to the UFC, noting that the promotion is currently searching for a replacement.
Swanson was to have made his UFC debut at the March event, but it appears he’ll have to wait for now. The former WEC fighter has traded wins for losses over his last fight fights, which includes three “Fight of the Night” bonuses. His last bout was in November against Mackens Semerzier at the WEC 52 event, Swanson earned a split decision win as well as the “Fight Night” honor. His only other bout of 2010 was a unanimous decision loss to Chad Mendes at WEC 50.
If an opponent can be found for Koch, he’ll make his UFC debut on the Versus show. He makes the move over from the WEC with a 3-1 record having won his last two bouts. He stopped Francisco Rivera at WEC 52 by TKO, which earned him the “Knockout of the Night” bonus, and submitted Bendy Casimir at WEC 49 last June.
UFC Live: Sanchez vs. Kampmann is scheduled to take place on March 3 at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
