Liz Carmouche and Roxanne Modafferi will look to get one step closer to a title shot against current champ Valentina Shevchenko at the July 20 event.

A pivotal women’s flyweight bout is in the works for UFC San Antonio.

Liz Carmouche is expected to meet Roxanne Modafferi at the July 20 event, ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reported Tuesday.

Carmouche, the No. 3 flyweight, is riding a two-fight winning streak. In her last fight, she defeated Lucie Pudilova at UFC Prague in February. Carmouche holds notable wins over Katlyn Chookagian and Lauren Murphy.

Modafferi, the No. 5 flyweight, is coming off an upset win over top prospect Antonina Shevchenko, the sister of flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko, at UFC St. Petersburg last month. Modafferi, who also contributes to Bloody Elbow as a writer, is 2-2 since returning to the UFC in 2017 after a stint on The Ultimate Fighter 27. She competed for the inaugural title against Nicco Montano, but lost via decision.

Carmouche vs. Modafferi is the first bout added to UFC San Antonio, which takes place at AT&T Center. The main card airs live on ESPN.
