Tony Ferguson will make his awaited return to the Octagon at UFC 238 on June 8 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside United Center in Chicago, Illinois, when he takes on surging veteran Donald Cerrone in a crucial 155-pound matchup.

While nothing is official, the winner of Ferguson vs, Cerrone may very well get the next crack at the UFC’s lightweight title. That is, of course, after interim titleholder Dustin Poirier tests his luck against current champion Khabib Nurmagomedov later this year.

In advance to Ferguson’s return, which has been delayed by personal issues outside of the cage, the promotion has released full video footage of “El Cucuy’s” TKO finish over former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis back at UFC 229. The action can be seen above and features 10 minutes of bloody carnage between the two lightweights before Pettis’ corner stopped the fight. Ferguson was awarded with the second-round finish and both men walked away with Fight of the Night honors.

The impressive victory by Ferguson helped push his current UFC win streak to an astounding 11 and his overall promotional record to 14-1, which is crazy considering “El Cucuy” has been fighting in the hardest division in the sport since 2011. “Showtime” wasn’t an easy fight for Ferguson, but the former Ultimate Fighter winner once again came out on top to further cement his bid for a true title shot (no interim bullshit).

Only time will tell if Ferguson is able to return from an eight-month absence and knock off Cerrone, who currently holds the UFC’s all-time record for most wins and finishes. It’s a dream matchup for fight fans everywhere, but a clash of lightweights that remains very dangerous for a streaking title contender like Ferguson.
