“If you are a fan and believe I am scared or do not want a Rematch with Amanda Nunes then you are probably the same fan who use to believe Ronda Rousey wanted to fight Cris Cyborg every time Dana said it in an interview.”
It doesn’t look like Cris Cyborg will ever be on the best of terms with Dana White.
At a post-fight media scrum for UFC 238, White hinted that Cyborg — real name Cristiane Justino — may not be interested in a rematch with reigning women’s bantamweight and featherweight champ Amanda Nunes despite Cyborg’s claims to the contrary.
“If Cyborg’s not interested, like I said, it’s okay. Not saying anything about Cyborg. I’m just saying that’s just the way it played out.”
Justino, who will be testing free agency once her UFC contract expires, responded by accusing the UFC president of lying whenever the Rousey vs. Cyborg superfight question came up in the past.
“If you are a fan and believe I am scared or do not want a Rematch with Amanda Nunes then you are probably the same fan who use to believe Ronda Rousey wanted to fight Cris Cyborg every time Dana said it in an interview. Today at 10:45 pst I will be joining @arielhelwani on @espnmmato explain what’s going on about this rematch and my upcoming #ufc240 fight,” Cyborg posted on Instagram yesterday.
Rousey, the former bantamweight queen, clearly never had any interest in moving up in weight to challenge Cyborg despite White claiming that she did. ‘Rowdy’, who now performs under the WWE banner, retired from MMA after her devastating knockout loss to Nunes at UFC 207.
Cyborg, the former women’s featherweight champ, also suffered a crushing first-round KO defeat to ‘The Lioness’ last year at UFC 232. The Brazilian knockout artist will look to rebound with a win over Felicia Spencer at UFC 240 on July 27. The co-headlining bout will take place at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Canada.
