Jorge Masvidal says he doesn’t have real “beef” with Ben Askren.
Even after his his record setting flying knee knockout win, the smack talk between Jorge Masvidal and Ben Askren continued. While Masvidal still clearly wouldn’t be friends with Askren any time soon, don’t ask him about “squashing their beef,” because he believes they never really had one.
“Oh no, it’s not beef,” Masvidal said at the post-fight press conference. “Because if this was beef, it would be different. I would be at the front of his house waiting for him right now. It’s not beef. I just don’t like my co-worker, we can say.
“This is not beef, this is just some idiot I don’t like. But my job, thank god — and you guys might get jealous with this — I get to punch the co-workers I don’t like in the face.”

Masvidal said that his end goal is to simply provide for his family and send his kids to a university, which is the main reason he’s currently gunning for the UFC welterweight belt. This was never personal to him, but the end result was satisfying nonetheless.
“I just don’t like the dude, and I knew how to get in his head. There’s nothing personal with me. It’s just business. I’m here to get these checks, get paid,” he said.
“That belt is next (but) I’m glad I got to end that dude.”
