With Georges St-Pierre in his corner, rising lightweight prospect Nasrat Haqparast made good on his main card bid earlier today (Sat., Aug. 3, 2019) at UFC on ESPN 5 inside Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, when he put a vicious stop to Brazilian veteran Joaquim Silva via second-round knockout (punches).
Both men landed good strikes in the first round, but nothing that would change the direction of the fight. The second round was a different story, though, as Haqparast timed a beautiful overhand left that slammed into Silva’s face. The Brazilian instantly fell to the canvas and Haqparast followed up with heavy ground-and-pound before the referee stepped in for the stoppage.

With this performance, Haqparast secures his first Octagon finish after winning his previous two UFC victories by way of unanimous decision. The 23-year-old German has a very high ceiling at 155 pounds and with the talented crew at Tristar Gym backing his efforts there’s a good chance Haqparast get a crack at the top 15 by year’s end. If not, 2020 will surely be his breakout campaign.
