Colby Covington dominated every second of his main event clash with former UFC champion Robbie Lawler earlier today (Sat., Aug. 3, 2019) at UFC on ESPN 5 inside Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, en route to earning a unanimous decision win and No. 1 contender rights in the jam-packed welterweight division.
As expected, Covington pressured Lawler from the opening bell and really never let off the gas. Covington pushed “Ruthless” against the cage, landed short punches inside, and scored takedowns at will over the first two rounds.
Behind on the scorecards, Lawler offered a little more offense in the third to try and claw his way back into the fight. Unfortunately for the former champion, Covington was there to respond with his own offense and took the fight back in the fourth and fight. “Chaos” leaned on chest-to-chest pressure, peppering combinations, a few hard body kicks, and suffocating cardio to prevent Lawler from doing pretty much anything.
In total, Covington threw nearly 600 total strikes while winning all five rounds and capturing the lopsided decision win.
