Colby Covington made things look easy earlier today (Sat., Aug. 3, 2019) at UFC on ESPN 5 inside Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, when he ran through former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler via unanimous decision (highlights HERE). “Chaos” prevented Lawler from doing much of anything and ultimately proved he’s ready for a shot at current divisional champion Kamaru Usman.
In addition to Covington’s five-round beat down, lightweight veteran Jim Miller put Clay Guida to sleep with a 58-second submission in the co-main event, talented young lightweight Nasrat Haqparast scored a memorable knockout victory over Brazilian finisher Joaquim Silva, middleweight finisher Gerald Meerschaert found a late third-round submission finish over talented prospect Trevin Giles, Antonina Shevchenko scored a big submission finish over Lucie Pudilova after suffering a nasty cut in the first round, surging flyweight contender Matt Schnell scored the second-fastest submission finish in division history with a 83-second stoppage of Jordan Espinosa, veteran fighter Lauren Murphy closed out her “Prelims” bout with Mara Romero Borella with a vicious TKO finish, and streaking Brazilian fighter Claudio Silva locked down his fifth-straight UFC win with an easy submission of Octagon newcomer Cole Williams.
