Donald Cerrone will make another walk to the Octagon in just over one month when he locks horns with top-flight finisher Justin Gaethje in a lightweight main event at UFC on ESPN+ 16 on Sept. 14 live on ESPN+ from inside Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Cerrone, who is coming off a tough TKO loss to Tony Ferguson back at UFC 238, is trying to salvage his UFC lightweight title hopes with a memorable performance opposite Gaethje. The man known as “Cowboy” holds the record for most UFC wins and finishes but has yet to hoist promotional gold. A win over “Highlight” could set Cerrone up for a No. 1 contender’s bout in early 2020, but he’s likely to cash that in for a quick turnaround knowing how often the veteran likes to compete.
Gaethje, who has finally settled in at 155 pounds, is coming off back-to-back knockout wins over Edson Barboza and James Vick. “Highlight” has really started to come into his own after suffering consecutive losses to Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier from 2017-2018, showing a more calm and collected approach inside of the cage of late. Gaethje has earned a post-fight bonus in each of his five Octagon appearances and should have no problem parlaying a win over “Cowboy” into a potential lightweight title shot next year.
