Season seven winner of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series, UFC welterweight Amir Sadollah (5-2), finished an opponent for only the second time in seven outings with the top promotion. Sadollah submitted “TUF 9″ finalist DaMarques Johnson, who took the fight on roughly two weeks notice, in the second round forcing the tap after dropping unanswered elbows to Johnson’s head.
Sadollah showed greatly improved striking and looked like the dominant fighter of the two. Despite that fact, the “TUF” winner knows that he is a slow starter but felt that if he applied the pressure to Johnson, he could find a way to put his opponent away.
“I felt a little flat starting but once I caught my rhythm, I felt a little more alive. I felt better in the second round, I felt more fluid. I’m a notorious late starter as it is, but I’ve been working on it…”
“I couldn’t assume he was going to gas…I just thought that if I put on the pressure he’d open up.”
The fighter has been working to improve all aspects of his fight game, and credits his one takedown in the fight to his work with Calvary Chapel Wrestling.
“I wanna say a special thanks to Calvary Chapel Wrestling, they helped me out a lot for this fight and I’ve been working with their wrestling team…I got ‘A’ takedown so I credit them with that. DaMarques is definitely the type of guy that won’t go away till you put him there, so you can’t get lazy and put your arm out there or something.”
