Boxing’s pound-for-pound best fighter, Vasyl Lomachenko (13-1, 10 KOs), will return to action later today (Sat., Aug. 31, 2019) live on ESPN+ from inside The O2 Arena in London, England, as he defends his WBA (Super), WBO, and The Ring lightweight title, while fighting for the vacant WBC lightweight strap, against England’s own Luke Campbell (20-2, 16 KOs) in the main event.
The last time we saw “Matrix” he was piecing up another English boxer, Anthony Crolla, via fourth-round knockout back in April (see highlights HERE). That win pushed Lomachenko’s current win streak to 12 since turning professional back in 2013. The 31-year-old is the heavy favorite to retain his title later today and add another belt to his collection as he continues to cement himself as the most skilled fighter in the sport.
Campbell, on the other hand, will try to shock the boxing world and take out the pound-for-pound best fighter. Luckily, “Cool Hand” will have his home crowd behind him and a near-six inch reach advantage over Lomachenko. Campbell is certainly going to have to deal with the champion’s speed, footwork, and precision, but if he can create distance and establish range early maybe he can bring this fight into the later rounds.
