With UFC Shenzhen’s early morning action in the books (results HERE) the combat sports world can now focus on the return of boxing sensation and current WBA (Super), WBO, and The Ring lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (13-1, 10 KOs).
Lomachenko, who is boxing’s consensus pound-for-pound best fighter, will try to add the vacant WBC lightweight title to his mantle in a matchup with Englishman Luke Campbell (20-2, 16 KOs) later tonight (Sat., Aug. 31, 2019) live on ESPN+ from inside The O2 Arena in London, England. The bout with headline a main card starting at 1:00 p.m. ET.
This will obviously be a tremendous opportunity for Campbell to shock the boxing world and pull off one of the biggest upsets in recent memory. The towering English contender will have a considerable reach advantage over “Matrix” but he’s going to need much more that that to send Lomachenko packing and end his reign atop boxing’s P4P list.
As one of the most entertaining boxers in the sport today, Lomachenko’s fights often attract the masses, no matter who he’s fighting. But when exactly can ESPN+ subscribers expect “Matrix” to lock horns with Campbell later tonight in London?
Boxing is always tricky to time given the lengthy in-event promotions and introductions, but Lomachenko and Campbell should begin their respective walks to the ring sometime around 5:00 p.m. ET (subject to change so keep it tuned into Mania for any updates). That will be right after Hughie Fury and Alexander Povetkin square off in a heavyweight co-main event.
Make sure you don’t miss the action as Lomachenko tries to continue his lightweight dominance and prove he’s boxing most prized star.
