An undisclosed injury has forced UFC welterweight Jon Fitch (23-3-1, 1NC) to withdraw from his upcoming UFC 132 rematch with BJ Penn.
News of the injury was first reported by MMAWeekly.com who confirmed the injury with sources close to the situation.
Fitch and Penn were scheduled to rematch at the UFC 132 event after both men fought to a majority draw in their February headlining bout at UFC 127 in Australia. Judges scored the bout 28-29, 28–28, and 28–28 in their #1 contender bout, forcing the UFC to rebook the match.
UFC 132 is scheduled to take place on July 2 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Before the majority draw result against Penn, Fitch had won five straight unanimous decisions since his loss to welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre back at UFC 87. While Penn, who had moved back to fighting at 170 lbs after two straight title match losses to Frankie Edgar, earned a 21 second knockout win over Matt Hughes at UFC 123 before the draw with Fitch.
