Justin Gaethje scored his third consecutive first-round knockout by stopping Donald Cerrone in the main event of UFC Vancouver.
Justin Gaethje proved to be too much for Donald Cerrone at UFC Vancouver, knocking out “Cowboy” at the end of the first-round.
What was the high point of the fight?
Gaethje started off the fight well, beating Cerrone to the punch every time whilst landing some good leg kicks. “The Highlight” found success with uppercuts in the pocket and also landed some hard left hooks.
Towards the end of the first round, Gaethje landed a big right hand that put Cerrone down. After “Cowboy” got back to his feet, Gaethje dropped him again with a right hand leaving Cerrone face down on the canvas and the referee stopping the fight.
Where do these two go from here?
The loss for Cerrone snaps a three-fight winning streak, but regardless “Cowboy” is still at the very top at 155-pounds. It’s hard to say who is next for Cerrone, but maybe a rematch with Al Iaquinta or a fight with Kevin Lee, who plans on dropping back down to lightweight, is good next for Cerrone.
When asked by Daniel Cormier in his post-fight interview whether he wants a fight with current lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov or Conor McGregor, Gaethje said the Irishman is “retired” and instead wants a fight with a “real fighter” in Nurmagomedov, that is after he most likely faces Tony Ferguson next.
Watch it now, later or never?
