The upcoming UFC 245 pay-per-view (PPV) event on Dec. 14 live on ESPN+ from Las Vegas has quickly turned into one of the most stacked cards in recent memory. With three title fights leading the way, the end-of-year PPV card is expected to produce some of the best viewership numbers of the year.
Leading the pack will be a welterweight headliner between current UFC champion Kamaru Usman, who is coming off a unanimous decision win over Tyron Woodley, and top contender Colby Covington, who has pushed his way into a title shot on the heels of unmatched trash talk and unforgettable Octagon dominance. It is one of the biggest grudge matches in the sport today and more than worthy of headlining a massive card like UFC 245.
Serving as the co-main event will be a featherweight title fight featuring long-time champion Max Holloway and surging Australian contender Alexander Volkanovski. While “Blessed” lost to Dustin Poirier earlier this year in an attempt to claim the UFC interim lightweight title, Holloway hasn’t tasted defeat at 145 pounds since Conor McGregor outpointed him back in 2013. Volkanovski, who has won his first seven trips to the Octagon, is hoping to utilize a high motor and strong grappling game to break that unbeaten streak.
Rounding out the three title fights is a women’s bantamweight rematch between current UFC champion Amanda Nunes, who also holds the promotion’s 145-pound female title, and proven striker Germaine de Randamie. The two fighters met all the way back at UFC Fight Night 31 in 2013 as “Lioness” defeated de Randamie via first-round TKO. Since then, Nunes has gone on to become a two-division UFC champion with key wins over Ronda Rousey, Cris Cyborg, Miesha Tate, Holly Holm, and Valentina Shevchenko, while “Iron Lady” has won her last five trips to the Octagon.
In addition to these championship bouts, former UFC featherweight king Jose Aldo will make his bantamweight debut against former UFC title challenger Marlon Moraes, and UFC Hall of Famer Urijah Faber will take on surging bantamweight contender Petr Yan.
