Mixed martial arts is an illegal sport in the country of Norway, so former ADCC champ Jon Olav Einemo (6-1) is spending his time in Thailand and Holland, at the Golden Glory camp, in preparation for his upcoming UFC 131 debut against UFC heavyweight Shane Carwin.
Einemo, who is 35 years old, hasn’t fought since 2006 due to injury and illness, but plans on making the most of his upcoming fight with Carwin in Vancouver, Canada in June. The Norwegian is a skilled BJJ fighter, who is the only one to ever defeat Roger Gracie at an ADCC tournament, and plans to use his strong cardio to push the pace when he finally steps into the octagon.
Speaking to BleacherReport.com, Einemo talked about his upcoming bout, training for his first fight after a five year absence, plus more.
“I am very excited to fight him and I am very happy that he accepted to fight me, because I haven’t been active in a while and he has a lot to lose. Of course he is going to be big and strong and he punches hard and everything like that, but I want to fight the best and if not, it is not fun to do this [sport]. I am a very different build than him [Carwin], I am more long and not muscular like him. I guess my cardio should be okay…”
“[UFC] is not an easy league and that is the name of the game, and I have to face good guys to be the best.”
