Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father and trainer Abdulmanap believes a potential bout with Tony Ferguson is a “dream fight” for all fans of mixed martial arts.
Per UFC president Dana White, the lightweight title fight is expected to headline the UFC’s return to Brooklyn, New York on April 18. The fight is not confirmed yet, but Nurmagomedov has signed his part of the contract according to his manager Ali Abdelaziz.
And the senior Nurmagomedov is one that is particularly excited for the matchup should it finally come to fruition:
“We have signed a contract and are moving towards the goal to become the best regardless of the weight category,” he wrote in an Instagram post (translation via BJ Penn). “And this battle is more than ever to become the best. Both are on a collision course, and I want to say that the UFC never met fighters for both so that there were 12 consecutive wins.
“I call it a dream fight for all fans of mixed martial arts. We will do everything in our power to bring victory to our fans and Russia, and the result is for the Almighty.”
Nurmagomedov and Ferguson have been previously booked to face each other four times, with the fight falling through on all four occasions. However, it’s a bout that needs to happen given how dominant both fighters have been in the 155-pound division.
Hopefully, fans get to see it in 2020.
Do you agree with Nurmagomedov’s father?
