Former UFC heavyweight title challenger Alistair Overeem was doing exactly what he needed to do last night (Sat., Dec. 7, 2019) at UFC on ESPN 7 live on ESPN from inside Capital One Arena in Washington D.C., to jump out on the scorecards and command a distinct lead in his main event spot opposite power puncher Jairzinho Rozenstruik.
But all it takes is one punch and that’s exactly how the UFC D.C. headliner played out, as “Bigi Boy” leveled Overeem with a monstrous right hand just seconds left in the fifth and final round. Overeem dropped like a sack of potatoes against the cage, but quickly tried to return to his feet. The referee had seen enough, though, especially after taking a look at Overeem’s split lip.
While combat fans have seen some pretty gnarly injuries over the years Overeem’s gruesome lip injury suffered by Rozenstruik’s right hand may take the cake. If you don’t believe me feel free to check out the collective imagery below.
I know y’all want me to zoom in… but yeah. Eep. Overeem’s coach was gagging when he saw. #UFCDC pic.twitter.com/30XsZbTTXu

Shades or Robbie Lawler. What Jairzinho Rozenstruik did to Alistair Overeem looks straight out of a horror movie. (via @jeffbottari /Getty) #UFCDC pic.twitter.com/2nEXM5zmJB

In all honesty, it looks like Overeem went swimming in the Atlantic and had a shark take a “Bigi” bite out of his face. The veteran’s disgusting lip, or lack thereof, is a true testament to Rozenstruik’s incredible punching power and ability to finish fights at the drop of a dime,
Overeem, 39, has suffered some pretty serious knockout defeats in the past but never a visible injury quite like this. Hopefully the heavyweight contender can regroup and get back on the horse in 2020 because he was dominating Rozenstruik before “Bigi Boy” caught him sleeping.
