Alexander Volkanovski shut down UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway last night (Sat., Dec. 14, 2019) at UFC 245 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, to earn a unanimous decision win and the undisputed UFC featherweight title.

Holloway started the first round with a lot of movement and range control but Volkanovski’s leg kicks started to slow him down a bit. Volkanovski would land a few good shots afterwards before failing on a takedown attempt along the cage. More hard leg kicks in the second forced Holloway to switch to southpaw, but that only allowed Volkanovski to start hitting the right leg. “Blessed” did find a home for a few good punches towards the end of the frame that turned the tides a bit.

In the third round, Holloway kept busy from southpaw as Volkanovski returned with strikes to the body and legs. Holloway tried to move forward but his movement was severely hampered. The fourth round saw Holloway get tagged early and often before switching back to orthodox to land a few punches of his own. Both featherweights exchanged to close out the frame as the co-main event went to the fifth.

In the final round of the fight, Holloway tried to load up a little more in effort to land a decisive blow. But it was Volkanovski who was able to control the pace of the fight and kept Holloway at bay with more leg kicks and counters. At the end of the round, Volkanovski had done enough to claim his first UFC championship.
