The biggest attraction in combat sports today returns to the cage later this evening (Sat., Jan. 18, 2020) at UFC 246 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, as Conor McGregor leaves a 15-month layoff behind to challenge Donald Cerrone in a 170-pound main event.
This will be McGregor’s first UFC appearance since getting choked out by rival Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 back in 2018 in the biggest-selling fight in company history. It will also be McGregor’s first of a potential three fights in 2020 as “Notorious” tries to regain his stranglehold on the fight game.
McGregor will certainly have his hands full when he steps inside of the cage and stands across from Cerrone, who currently holds the UFC record for most fights, wins, finishes, and post-fight bonuses. “Cowboy” has accrued those records over the course of a nine-year UFC career, but the 36-year-old veteran remains as dangerous as ever, especially coming off back-to-back knockout loses to end 2019.
Fight fans all around the world will be tuning in to watch McGregor’s return fight opposite the man who called him out over four years ago, but when will the two fighters actually lock horns?
With four other fights taking place on the PPV main card starting at 10:00 p.m. ET, McGregor vs. Cerrone is likely to begin sometime around 12:05 a.m. ET (Sunday). None of the undercard bouts are scheduled for more than three rounds so things could roll along pretty quickly. Not to mention the fact that Anthony Pettis vs. Carlos Diego Ferreira, Brian Kelleher vs. Ode Osbourne, and Aleksei Oleinik vs. Maurice Greene are all candidates to produce quick finishes.
