Reigning UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will try to continue his Octagon perfection at UFC 247 on Feb. 8 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, when he defends his 205-pound crown against undefeated contender Dominick Reyes.
This is a massive fight for both men as they headline the second biggest event of the new year thus far. For Jones, it’s his chance to prove that he’s still as dominant as ever and can handle the new wave of young contenders the light heavyweight division has to offer. As for Reyes. this is his chance to not only hoist UFC gold but to defeat one of the very best pound-for-pound fighters of all time.
Leading into Jones vs. Reyes, UFC commentators Dan Hardy and John Gooden sat down for a UFC 247 edition of “Inside the Octagon,” which can be seen in the above video player. As always, Hardy and Gooden do a tremendous job breaking down each fighter and revealing the strengths and weaknesses for their UFC 247 headliner.
From the official YouTube description:
In this episode John and Dan breakdown the Light Heavyweight Title bout at UFC 247 between Champion Jon “Bones” Jones and Challenger Dominick “The Devastator” Reyes. Successful title defenses over Anthony Smith and Thiago Santos in 2019 saw Jones end the decade as both Light Heavyweight champ and Pound for Pound king. Now he steps into the octagon for the first time in 2020 with a clear vision of cementing his place as the sport’s greatest of all time.
Emerging as a standout from a new generation in the Light Heavyweight division, Dominick Reyes has blazed his way to a perfect 12 and 0 record and the Devestator’s power striking has now earned him a shot at UFC gold. Will Jon Jones’ reign come to an end at UFC 247 or will Dominick Reyes be yet another who bows to the King.
Despite his lack of experience in big spots, Reyes’ natural athletic capabilities and serviceable punching power could allow him to give Jones problems come fight time. It will be up to Jones to play matador, pick his shots, and fight smart en route to another successful UFC title defense.
