Brok Weaver saw his Octagon debut cut short by a Rodrigo Vargas illegal knee last night (Sat., Feb. 15, 2020) at UFC Fight Night 167 live on ESPN+ from inside Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.

Weaver was taken down early in the first before nearly sinking in a fight-ending guillotine choke along the cage. Vargas muscled out and started to implement a ground-and-pound attack. Unfortunately, Vargas launched a badly timed knee that struck Weaver directly in the chin as he was still on the mat. Weaver looked out for a second as the referee immediately waved the fight off and disqualified Vargas for the strike.

This was obviously not the debut that Weaver wanted or the Octagon redemption Vargas was fighting for, but the right call was made. The knee was clearly illegal and left nothing to the imagination. We’ll have to wait a little longer to see how Weaver handles himself in a full UFC fight.
