We are just six weeks away from UFC Fight Night 172 on April 11 live on ESPN+ from inside Moda Center in Portland, Oregon, and the official fight poster has already dropped.
Leading the way is a heavyweight main event between former UFC title challenger Alistair Overeem and heavy-handed knockout artist Walt Harris. This will be Overeem’s third-straight main event bid as “Demolition Man” has produced a knockout win over Alexey Oleinik and knockout loss to Jairzinho Rozenstruik since the beginning of 2019. For Harris, this will be his first fight since having his step daughter kidnapped and murdered late last year so emotions will be high for “Big Ticket.”
With 36 career knockouts between them, Overeem and Harris should produce a worthy main event clash. Both like to throw heavy leather and are each trying to position themselves for a big-time fight later in 2020, especially Harris who is looking to use Overeem’s name to launch himself close to the heavyweight top five.
In the co-main event, former UFC women’s strawweight champion Carla Esparza will take on perennial contender Michelle Waterson in an ultra-important clash at 115 pounds. Esparza will be looking to win her third fight in a row and inch back into title contention while “Karate Hottie” is looking to rebound from a recent main event loss to Joanna Jedrzejczyk this past October.
