Alexandre FerreiraOn Thursday we reported, via Portal do Vale Tudo, that the UFC was working on a middleweight matchup for UFC 134 between Brazilians Rousimar Palhares (12-3) and Alexandre “Cacareco” Ferreire (18-7).

Now “Cacareco” has come out saying that “Nothing is set yet” against Palhares for the Rio event. Speaking to Tatame.com, Ferreire told the Brazilian news agency that the issue is his weight.

“I’m still fighting to move down to middleweight, let’s see how it’ll work, if I’m going down or not. My natural weigh is 207lbs, I weigh that since I’m 14 years old… Nothing is set yet”, he said.

Ferreire has spent his career fighting at light heavyweight, but after losing his UFC debut to Vladimir Matyushenko last November at UFC 122, promotion officials suggested that he drop down to middleweight for his next fight.

He and Palhares had been scheduled to meet on March 3 at the UFC Live: Sanchez vs. Kampmann event, but Ferreire pulled himself out of the fight after the loss of friends and family caused by extensive flooding in Brazil earlier in the year.

UFC 134: Rio is not yet official, but is expected to take place on Aug. 27 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
