Alistair Overeem proved he’s still a threat in the UFC’s heavyweight division last night (Sat., May 16, 2020) at UFC on ESPN 8 live on ESPN/ESPN+ from inside VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla., when “The Reem” finished Walt Harris via second-round TKO (punches) in the main event. This was Harris’ first fight back since losing his stepdaughter late last year and he fought well, but Overeem had final say in a memorable heavyweight clash.
Harris nearly toppled Overeem in the first with massive combinations and ground-and-pound, but Overeem’s chin withstood all the punishment. Overeem returned the favor by getting top control and scoring his own ground-and-pound for two good minutes.
Both men looked tired as the second round started, but Overeem was moving forward with more confidence. Out of nowhere, “Demolition Man” landed a massive head kick followed by punches that hurt Harris and forced him to the ground. Overeem would pounce on top and rain down hard punches for a good while as Harris tried to hang on. After more punishment to “Big Ticket,” the referee was forced to step in.
