The Ultimate Fighting Championship was kept busy on Tuesday night, announcing another upcoming bout featuring lightweights Jim Miller (20-2) and Ben “Smooth” Henderson (13-2) for the upcoming UFC on Versus 5 event in August.
Verbal agreements are in for an August matchup between two of the top lightweights in the UFC as former WEC champion Ben Henderson takes on highly ranked Jim Miller, who is currently riding a seven-fight win streak.
The UFC on Versus 5 has yet to be officially announced, but is expected to take place on Aug. 14 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The event marks the first trip to Wisconsin for the UFC.
Miller has won seven straight fights in the UFC, and is an amazing 15-1 since April 2007. His last Octagon appearance was just a couple of months ago, taking on Kamal Shalorus on the pay-per-view card of UFC 128. Miller would earn a third round TKO win at the event. Previous to that, Miller fought four times in 2010, defeating Charles Oliveira at UFC 124, Gleison Tibau at UFC Fight Night 22, Mark Bocek at UFC 11, and Duane Ludwig at UFC 108.
Henderson, a former WEC lightweight champ, bounced back from a WEC title loss by winning a unanimous decision against Mark Bocek a couple of weeks ago at UFC 129 in Toronto. “Smooth” lost the title to Anthony Pettis by decision at the final WEC event, WEC 53, last December. Henderson’s performance did earn him and Pettis the “Fight of the Night” bonus. Fighting under Zuffa, Henderson is 6-1 since he debuted with the WEC back in January of 2009.
