Cageside judges at the upcoming UFC 131 event in Vancouver will have video monitors at their disposal when the June 11 event happens. The UFC has been asking for video monitors at their events to better help judges score fights, in the hopes of reducing the number of controversial decisions made.
The Vancouver Athletic Commission listened and has approved the request and may be the first UFC event to implement such devices. Currently the UFC also has a request into the Nevada State Athletic Commission for this months UFC 130 event, but the NSAC still seems lukewarm on the idea.
Sherdog.com reported the news earlier today after speaking with UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, Marc Ratner.
“Anything we can do to give the judges another tool is great. We’re very excited about it.”
It appears that the UFC may have scored another first in Canada for the furtherance of the sport of mixed martial arts, following on the heels of their first stadium event in Toronto last month with UFC 129.
UFC 130: Lesnar vs. Dos Santos is set to take place on June 11 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, B.C., Canada.
