Amanda Nunes looked as dominant as ever last night (Sat., June 6, 2020) at UFC 250 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, when she brutalized Felicia Spencer in the main event to capture her first UFC women’s featherweight title defense, winning the contest via unanimous decision.
The champion landed a few big right hands early. Spencer tried to close the gap on the feet with takedowns along the cage, but Nunes defended nicely. “Lioness” then scored a beautiful hip throw to gain top control. From there, Nunes would land heavy punches and sharp elbows to close out the round.
Nunes kept the pressure on in the begging of the second round. Every time Spencer would try to score some offense she paid with an even more powerful counter by the champion. Spencer went back to her takedown game but it was nonexistent as “Lioness” defended and scored her own. The challenger really started to show the damage with blood covering the left side of her head, as Nunes pressed the action and gained even more momentum.
In the third, Nunes landed more hard punches that stopped Spencer in her tracks. “Feenom” still kept her composure but wasn’t able to do much of anything. Nunes made her pay with front kicks to the body, powerful head kicks, and punches to the body that hit the mark on arrival. Spencer desperately reached for another takedown but it was easily shrugged off.
The fourth frame saw Spencer push forward and try to find a hole for any sort of offense. Nunes immediately took back control and scored more with her hands. The champion was even able to find a home for a wicked side kick to Spencer’s body. Nunes would go on to land another massive combination that knocked Spencer to the ground. “Lioness” nearly locked in a rear-naked choke as well but the bell saved the challenger.
The fifth and final round offered little differences from the first 20 minutes of action. Spencer hung in the pocket and tried to claw her way back in the fight before Nunes quickly turned the tables and smothered with her pressure, eventually earning top control. The elbows and ground-and-pound rained heavy as Spencer’s face bloodied even more. Nunes didn’t let up and brutalized “Feenom” until the final bell.
