Promising bantamweight prospect Amir Albazi gave fight fans their first finish earlier tonight (Sat., July 18, 2020) at UFC Fight Island 2 live on ESPN+ from inside Flash Forum on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, as “The Prince” stopped veteran Malcolm Gordon via first-round submission (triangle choke). It was the first triangle choke finish inside of the Octagon this year.
Both men had their moments in the first round but it was Albazi who was able to do more damage off his back when the two hit the ground. The Swedish fighter worked hard from full guard to lock up a tight triangle choke that put Gordon on notice. Gordon tried to wiggle free but Albazi’s grip was simply too tight and he eventually forced the tap. It was the first time Gordon has been finished via submission.

With this performance, Albazi makes his UFC debut on short notice and pulls off the biggest win of his young career. The 26-year-old bantamweight looked really composed off his back in this fight which allowed him to capture his eight career finish by way of submission. Albazi should stay ready in case anything opens up in the near future, especially considering he came through for UFC this time around.
