Khabib Nurmagomedov has broken his silence with a tribute to his late father.

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father recently passed away due to complications relating to COVID-19. Abdulmanap also served as a coach and mentor to the undefeated UFC champion, and many of his teammates have spoken about the immense bond they shared together.

Khabib has since broken his silence, taking to social media with a tribute to his late father. He quoted a passage from the Quran in three languages, and also had a short message for Abdulmanap.

“You will be missed Father,” Khabib wrote in Russian. “You were a father, friend, brother and coach all rolled into one. You taught me almost everything that I know, I hope you were pleased with me. After all, the contentment of parents is the contentment of Allah.”

Khabib’s teammate and friend Daniel Cormier recently said that he is unsure if or when the champion will return for that planned title unification with Justin Gaethje. He says Khabib’s MMA career was “their journey together” as father and son, and it will “take a lot of strength from a very strong man” in Khabib to return to competition.
