Moreno and Perez are booked on the same card as the flyweight title bout.
Another pivotal flyweight fight has been booked for UFC 255.
According to a report from MMA Fighting, top ranked 125’ers Brandon Moreno and Alex Perez have been booked for November 21. The bout, which could very well determine who is next in line for the title, is on the same UFC pay-per-view card as the flyweight championship bout between Deiveson Figueiredo and Cody Garbrandt.
Should anything go wrong with the main event, especially with Garbrandt dropping to 125 lbs for the first time, Moreno and Perez could also conceivably be suitable, top ranked replacements for the title bout.
Moreno, who is currently ranked at number two, was actually released from the promotion back in 2018, before going on his current streak. He returned to the UFC in 2019 and is undefeated in his three bouts with the promotion, having wins over Kai Kara-France and Jussier Formiga, along with a split draw with the number three ranked Askar Askarov.
Perez is also coming off a win over Formiga, and has victories in six of his seven bouts with the promotion — eight, if you count his Contender Series win in 2017. He is currently ranked as the number four flyweight, with his only loss in four years being against the last flyweight title challenger in Joseph Benavidez.
UFC 255 does not have an official location yet, but it is expected to be in Abu Dhabi.
Apart from the men’s flyweight title bout between Figueiredo and Garbrandt, the women’s flyweight championship will also on the line in the co-main event with Valentina Shevchenko defending her belt against Jennifer Maia.
