Trevin Jones pulled off a massive upset earlier tonight (Sat., Aug. 22, 2020) at UFC on ESPN 15 live on ESPN/ESPN+ from inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, when the Octagon newcomer filled in on a few days notice to finish touted bantamweight prospect Timur Valiev via second-round TKO (punches).
Valiev came out firing in the first round and landed ferocious punches to the body of Jones. “5 Star” somehow survived the onslaught and made it to the end of the bell. In the second round, Jones was able to get inside and crack Valiev with a perfectly-timed right hook that sent the Russian tumbling to the canvas. Jones then landed relentless ground-and-pound which eventually forced the referee to step in.

With this performance, Jones makes a huge splash in one of the promotion’s most stacked divisions and did so one just a few days notice. It was quite spectacular, especially for a guy who was nearly a 5-1 underdog coming into this “Prelims” bout. This finish should give Jones another big opportunity inside of the Octagon, and it’s going to be exciting to see what he can do with a full camp.
