Jan Blachowicz let his power do the talking last night (Sat., Sept. 26, 2020) at UFC 253 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside Flash Forum on “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., as the Polish contender toppled former title challenger Dominick Reyes via second-round TKO (punches) to claim the vacant light heavyweight championship.

Blachowicz tried to come forward with combinations early, but Reyes utilized his footwork to get out of harm’s way and reset. Reyes was slow to unload his own offense, though, and it allowed Blachowicz to land a brutal kick the the side that left a nasty welt on Reyes.

In Round 2, Blachowicz kept busy with advancing punches that backed Reyes up. Reyes tried to score some points with quick leg kicks, but Blachowicz landed a nice right hand followed by a later combination that stuffed “Devastator” back down the scorecards.

Reyes looked to come alive later into the second but Blachowicz really started to land heavy leather. The Polish contender put it on Reyes and caught him with a combination along the cage. One ferocious left put Reyes on skates as Blachowicz rushed in for some quick ground-and-pound, forcing the referee to step in.
