A welterweight bout appears to be in the works for the upcoming UFC 134: Silva vs. Okami event featuring former “TUF” season one participant Mike ‘Quick’ Swick (14-4), and promotion newcomer Erick ‘Indio’ Silva (11-1).
Sherdog.com confirmed the news with a source close to the fight on Wednesday.
UFC 134: Silva vs. Okami is expected to take place on Aug. 27 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and marks the promotions second visit ever to the South American country. Headlining the event will be a middleweight title defense by Anderson Silva, who will rematch Yushin Okami from their Rumble on the Rock bout back in January of 2006.
Swick is likely fighting for his future with the UFC promotion as he carries a two fight losing skid into the bout. ‘Quick’ was last in the Octagon in February of last year, losing by technical submission to Paulo Thiago at UFC 109. He also lost a unanimous decision to Dan Hardy at UFC 105 in a No. 1 contender bout. Since then Swick has been dealing with a lingering stomach condition that has kept him out of the cage. He and David Mitchell verbally agreed to meet at UFC: Fight for the Troops 2 but Mitchell pulled out due to injury, while Swick decided to let his stomach heal further.
Silva makes his debut riding a nine-fight undefeated streak, including winning the inaugural Jungle Fight welterweight title in his last bout. ‘Indio’ competed at the Jungle Fight 23 one night tournament, earning submission wins over two opponents to capture the title. Silva has earned seven of his wins by decision, and just two by knockout.
