Tyson Nam shared a funny story about what happened prior to the 2019 bout between Faber and Simon.
In 2019, Urijah Faber came out of a two and a half year retirement to fight Ricky Simon in his hometown of Sacramento, California. Apparently, backstage prior to that contest, Simon managed to pull a bit of a prank on his opponent, who badly needed a restroom at the time.
Simon’s teammate Tyson Nam shared the funny story in an interview with Shakiel Mahjouri.
“Ricky Simon was fighting. We were inside of those training rooms. It was pre-COVID so everyone had to share a training room. Urijah Faber comes in — this was before their fight,” Nam shared. “He was running around trying to find a restroom. I guess he had to go really bad.
“Ricky goes, ‘Go out the door, go around the corner and keep on following it. You’ll find a bathroom.’ We’ve never even been down that hallway so we didn’t even know where Urijah got led to,” Nam laughed. “He actually followed Ricky’s directions so we dipped out the other way and went ‘let’s go, let’s go.’”
Faber might have had the last laugh that night though, as he ended up picking up a 46-second TKO win over Simon later in the evening.
