Rising lightweight prospect Joel Alvarez scored yet another impressive submission finish earlier today (Sat., Oct. 24, 2020) live on ESPN+ PPV from inside Flash Forum on “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., as the 27-year-old ended veteran Alexander Yakovlev via first-round armbar.
Yakovlev didn’t waste much time getting this fight to the ground, but Alvarez immediately locked up a tight guillotine. Yakovlev fought well to pop his head out but wasn’t able to get out of the “El Fenomeno’s” guard. Alvarez took a moment or two before throwing up a slick armbar attempt that put Yakovlev in trouble and forced the tap.

With this performance, Alvarez locks down his second-straight submission finish inside of the Octagon after beating and retiring Joe Duffy this past July. Alvarez has finished each and every one of his career victories so it will be interesting to see what the promising youngster can do as he inches closer towards the lightweight top 15.
